2012-2013 Building Today’s PTA Membership Growth Incentive Awards

To recognize active growing PTA states and local units that increase membership in 2012-2013, National PTA is pleased to announce an incentive program that will award payments from $500 to $6000 to the top PTAs that show membership growth.

The program details are outlined below:
Membership Growth Incentive Rules 
 All PTA States that are in compliance with standards of affiliation are eligible to participate in the
membership growth incentive contest. Local Units that are active, and have at least 10 reported members
as of March 31, 2012 are eligible to participate in the contest. New Local Units added in the 2012-2013
membership year are not eligible to participate in this contest.
 The contest begins immediately and ends on March 31, 2013.
 The awards will be based on the parameters outlined in the award categories listed below, comparing
year-end members reported (March 31, 2012), to members reported at year-end 2013 (March 31, 2013).
 The awards will be announced and distributed at the 2013 NPTA Annual Convention in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Health, Wellness, and Safety Fair Details  (Burnette Elementary School)

Burnette Elementary School PTA invites parents, students, family and friends to attend an exciting Health, Wellness, and Safety Fair on November 5th from 6:00pm – 8:00pm in the student cafe.

This FREE event will feature ten speakers providing information on topics including: personal fitness, financial wellness, self defense, CPR, First Aid, school lunch nutrition, core strength/posture, dental health, and more! A special area will also be available for visitors to interact with medical instruments PCOM students use in their studies and future careers. In addition, members of the Gwinnett County Police Department will also be on site to discuss bicycle and car seat safety.

2012-2013 Area II PTA Scholarship Info & Application

Deadline: March 15, 2013

Area II is proud to present eight (8) $750.00 scholarships to deserving high school students who have successfully met or exceeded the State of Georgia graduation requirements, and plan to attend an accredited  two or four year college or university.  Only students in Parent Teacher and Student Associations (PTSA) within Area II are eligible to apply.

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students who have successfully completed high school who are interested in furthering their education in a college or university to prepare themselves for careers of their choice with the goal of having these individuals maintain their support and commitment to the advancement of education.

Council Dues & Audits Due End of September…Taxes Coming Up

September is the month to send in your Dues (and donations) to the Council, as well as file your Audit Reports with the state PTA office.  Don’t wait until the end of the month – send in these items today!  Also – it is a great time to start preparing your taxes.  Even though they are not due until October or November (depending on your FY end – either May or June), don’t wait until the last minute to prepare and file them (or have someone prepare them for you).  Make sure to send the IRS 990 Verification form (along with a copy of page 1 of your tax return) to the state PTA office when you mail your returns to the Georgia Department of Revenue and IRS Center.  If you file the 990 electronically, you’ll need to send a copy of the e-filing receipt with the IRS 990 Verification form.

REMINDER: Reflections Workshop – August 20, 2012

“The Magic of a Moment” is a fabulous theme and I am sure will make for a fabulous program at your school.

Our Reflections Workshop is this coming Monday, at 10:00am check-in, 10:30am Start time. Coffee and very light refreshments will be served. We will again conduct the workshop at the ISC, the Instructional Support Center, 437 Old Peachtree Road, Bldg. 200, Suwanee. The room location is upstairs in the Collins Hill/Dacula Rooms.

If you cannot make this workshop on Monday, the State PTA is offering a workshop tomorrow downtown. You just need to email gapta@bellsouth.net or call 404-659-0214 or 1-800-PTA-TODAY to rsvp.

Kimberly Hale, from Simpson ES, will be leading the Workshop on Monday and is excited to share the changes with you and also some concrete ideas on how to run a program.

Kristin Glaser, from Burnette ES, will be asking for volunteers at drop-off, set-up, and pick-up.

Julie Joseph, Council VP, will be the Council Contact.

We are without a Council Reflections Chair, but know that with everyone’s assistance this will be a fabulous celebration of the Arts.
