There are 2 amendments to the Council bylaws that are being proposed by the Area 2 Council Board of Directors. These amendments will be voted on at the Spring Elections on April 26th, 2017. Only local units in Good Standing will be eligible to vote, per the bylaws of the Georgia PTA.
Please plan to attend the 2017 Council January meeting on January 25th, 2017 to hear more about these proposed amendments.
Amendment #1
To amend Area 2 – Gwinnett Council PTA Bylaws Article VII Officers and Their Elections, Section 6, by changing the term of service for the executive committee from 1 year to 2 years.
Currently Reads: Section 6. Officers shall assume their official duties following the close of the school year and serve for a term of 1 year(s) or until their successor is elected.
If amended, will read: Section 6. Officers shall assume their official duties following the close of the school year and serve for a term of 2 years or until their successor is elected.
Rationale: This change will align the term of service for the Area 2 – Gwinnett County Council of PTAs Executive Committee with the current terms of service for Executive Board Members for Georgia PTA and the Executive Committee for the 12th District of Georgia PTA, to allow for more effective leadership in Georgia PTA and in the 12th District of Georgia PTA.
Amendment #2
To amend Area 2 – Gwinnett Council PTA Bylaws Article XIII, Standing and Special Committees, Section 3, by changing the term of service for the committee chair from 1 year to 2 years.
Currently Reads: Section 3. The term of office of a committee chair shall be 1 year(s) or until the selection of a successor.
If amended, will read: Section 3. The term of office of a committee chair shall be 2 years or until the selection of a successor.
Rationale: This change will align the term of service for the Area 2 – Gwinnett County Council of PTAs Committee Chairs with the current terms of service for Executive Board Members for Georgia PTA and the Board of Directors for the 12th District of Georgia PTA, to allow for more effective leadership in Georgia PTA and in the 12th District of Georgia PTA.
